This axe is part of a collection of North-European battle- or cult axes from the Single grave culture (also known as the Corded Ware culture or Battle axe culture).
This period follows after the Funnelbeaker culture and covered the area from the lands of the West Rhine to the east of the Wolga.
These axes were probably used for ceremonial purposes. All axes are made of granite and have a vertical shaft-hole in the middle.
