Rhoemetalces I was king of the Odrysian kingdom of Thrace from 12 BC to 12 AD. During a revolt against the Romans by Vologases, Rhoemetalces fled with his family, and returned when Augustus returned the kingdom to his family. Rhoemetalces became King of Thrace in 12 BC and was a loyal ally of Emperor Augustus. After the death of Rhoemetalces I in 12 AD, Augustus divided his realm into 2 separate kingdoms; one half for his son Cotys VIII, and the other half for Rhescuporis II, the brother of Rhoemetalces.
