Ancient Egyptian glazed faience Canopic jar lid, representing the baboon-head deity Hapi, protector of the lungs.

Canopic Jars were used to store and preserve the viscera of the owner for the afterlife. The four sons of Horus (Imsety, Duamutef, Hapi and Qebehsenuef) were personifications of the four Canopic jars which accompanied the mummified bodies.
