In the 11th century, the Counts of Brunswick (Brunonids dynasty) minted silver coins under Emperor Henry III (1039-1056). Dokkum (Oostergo) was the central mint, but the minting was also done in several other places (Stavoren, Bolsward, Leeuwarden are the best known).
The coins of the Frisian Counts Bruno III, Egbert I and Egbert II are striking in their excellent workmanship.
