Some numismatists have considered that this petit denier was struck in Osnabrück or St. Omer, but the majority of numismatists have attributed these coins to the Abbey of Ename. The garbled texts and lower weight may indicate that these are imitations of the Osnabrück coins, struck at the Abbey of Ename. Supporting this theory is the fact that these petit deniers have often been found in the neighbourhood of Ename (hoard found in Erweteghem).
The S divided with staf opposite A and dotted O in centre is similar to the denarius struck for Soest under Mint of the Archbishops of Cologne, late 12th century.
