The Republic of the Seven United Provinces (Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden) was a republic in Europe from 1581 to 1795. In 1568, the Netherlands, led by William I of Orange, revolted against Philip II. With the Act of Abjuration in 1581 they declared their independence from Philip II, King of Spain. The Eighty Years' War was ended in 1648 when the Spanish Empire recognized the Republic with the Peace of Münster.

The Dutch Republic is also known as the United Provinces, Federated Dutch Provinces (Foederatae Belgii Provinciae) and as Dutch Federation (Belgica Foederata).
