Gian Galeazzo Visconti (1395-1402)
Son of Galeazzo II Visconti, born 16 October 1351. Seven years after the death of his father he gained control of Milan In 1385 by overthrowing his uncle Bernabó. Ten years later he was the first to receive the title of Duke of Milan from Wenceslaus, King of the Romans for 100.000 florins.
His first marriage was to Isabelle of Valois, daughter of the King of France. Their daughter Valentina was married to Louis, Duke of Orleans.
With his second wife, his cousin Caterina Visconti (daughter of his uncle Bernabó) he had two more sons: Gian Maria and Filippo Maria.
During his reign he expanded his territories and establishd himself as Signore of Verona, Vicenza and Padua.
