Rondel dagger
Entered European society in the Late Middle Ages (from the 14th century onwards).
The triangular or diamond-shaped blades were designed to assist in puncturing chain mail and create more fatal stab wounds which were difficult to stitch.
The circular shape (rondel) of the guard and pommel lent its name to this type of weapon.
In the 15th century the rondel dagger rose to popularity with merchants and the middle class.
