Medieval Siegburg costrel (pilgrim's flask), salt-glazed
Medieval Siegburg costrel (pilgrim's flask), salt-glazed
Period: 1350-1450
Rhineland, Siegburg, twin-eared and salt-glazed costrel (pilgrim flask), suitable for travellers to carry drink during a journey.
During the making process a small pebble was purposely inserted (too large to exit) so the traveller can hear by the sound when the flask is (near) empty. The rounded bottom makes it only suitable for carrying with a cord or sling from the suspension ears.
Costrels are rarely found intact, this one is in perfect condition, no restorations.
Height: 15 cm
