Roman terracotta oil lamp 'Tightrope walkers'
Period: second half 1st century AD
Roman figurative terracotta oil lamp. The discus is framed by two raised concentric rings, in the centre a depiction of two dwarfs as tightrope walkers. The round lip is decorated with two volutes. Hairline crack on the front, otherwise in excellent condition.
Maker's mark on the bottom: L M ADIEC.
Ex private Belgian collection, acquired in the 1960's.
