Medieval forged iron spring scissors / shears. Looped head, extending to to two single-edged blades facing inwards for cutting.

Condition: intact and in good solid condition. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.

Spring scissors were already used in the Bronze Age and were the most common style through early and Middle Ages. Although the pivoting scissors were already invented by the Romans, the common use of spring scissors continued in Europe through the Middle Ages till the 16th century.
Spring scissors were important personal belongings and were very common grave goods during the Viking Era. Many surviving samples have been found at burial sites.
