Late Roman to early Byzantine beautiful and elegant style bronze candlestick - tripod stand for an oil lamp. The rounded feet are in the shape of paws of an animal; a heavy, skirt-like form is draped around the legs.
Above that is an elegant, columnar stem with various disc-like forms along its length. The mid section of the stem is hexagonal shaped. It is capped by a steep-walled, circular drip pan with a spike through it to attach to a bronze oil lamp or to function as a candle.

Height: ± 24 cm
Width: ± 11,5 cm (base)

Condition: very good and solid condition. One little knob from the base skirt is missing. Fantastic olive-green and smooth patina with areas of cuprite. Some signs of wear, consistent with age and use.
