-> The Eagle / Aquila was a powerful symbol within the Roman military. Each Legion carried a sacred eagle standard (Aquila), entrusted to a dedicated standard-bearer known as the Aquilifer, whose duty was to carry and protect it in battle. The Eagle embodied the strength and authority of Rome and was closely associated with Jupiter, the king of the Roman gods.
