A very rare and unusual medieval double-sided rectangular harness pendant, complete with its integral suspension loop. Both faces are decorated with a princely and protective bestiary arranged within six beaded compartments

Top row, from left to right:
- Elephant, possibly carrying a rider or howdah
- Lion or large feline
- Winged griffin

Bottom row, from left to right:
- Winged horse or Pegasus-type creature
- Horned quadruped, probably ibex or ram
- Two confronted birds, possibly flanking a Tree of Life

The style of medallions in compartments and the use of lions, griffins, elephants, winged horses, ibexes and confronted birds all belong to the artistic vocabulary shared across the Seljuk, Persianate, Armenian region, Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia and the Byzantine worlds. They conveyed ideas of royal authority, hunting, strength, prosperity and supernatural protection.
