China, red and gilt lacquered wood panel with export seal

Period: 19th century

Rectangular hand carved red and gilt lacquered wood chest panel, depicting a scene in relief in the shape of a large vase. Inside the vase a court scene with a woman and a child. Plain wood on the back with an export approval seal mark from the Shanghai Cultural Relics Bureau #4.
