COIN WEIGHTS

Antique Coin Weights: A Symbol of History and Trade
Antwerp, a major economic hub in the Southern Netherlands, played a key role in coin weight manufacturing for centuries. Coin weights often feature the iconic hand mark of Antwerp, a symbol linked to the legend of Brabo and the giant Antigone. In the 16th century, makers began adding their initials to the weights, and by 1576, the date became a required feature, starting with the last two digits. By the 17th century, full dates were included.
