Medieval lead pilgrims ampulla with a rounded base, tapering neck and a small suspension loop. The front shows a devotional scene, possibly showing a robed saint or holy figure standing on a ship. The reverse side shows a crowned heraldic shield.

Length: ± 46 mm
Condition: good and solid condition. One suspension handle is no longer present. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.

Pilgrims who went to visit the Holy Land or a holy shrine customarily brought back these little vessels. They were filled either with holy water or oils, dedicated to a holy site or Saint.
