Extremely rare pair of ancient Greek silver zoomorphic fibulae.

The fibulas consist of a finely engraved head representing a snake's head, three rivet form the eyes and nose while the mouth is slightly opened at the nose rivet which is the joint for the iron pin. The bodies are arched and consist of projecting flanges which show excellent workmanship.

Fibulae were brooches used to fasten or pin garments such as cloaks and in addition had a decorative function as jewellery.

Length: ± 58,4 - 58,7 mm

Width: ± 38,8 - 40,1 mm

Condition: overall very good and solid condition. Traces of wear, catchplate incomplete (one fibula) and iron pins missing. Iron deposits are visible in one of the catchplates and in both heads, which indicates the pins were made from iron which did not survive.
