Augustus, Æ Dupondius, restoration issue by Titus, struck Rome 80-81 AD. Very rare.

Obverse: DIVVS AVGVSTVS PATER, radiate head left.
Reverse: IMP T VESP AVG REST S-C, Victory flying left with shield inscribed SPQR.

AUGUSTUS, Emperor of Rome from 27 BC - 14 AD.

Augustus, born as Gaius Octavius was the adopted heir and great nephew of Julius Caesar. After the assassination of Caesar he transitioned Rome from a Republic to an Empire. Under his reign, the Roman Empire expanded significantly, incorporating regions like Hispania, Egypt and parts of Central Europe.

He ushered in the 'Pax Romana', a period of relative peace and prosperity that lasted for over two centuries. Augustus reorganised the Roman military, creating a standing army and establishing the Praetorian Guard to protect the Emperor.

Augustus was skilled at using art, architecture, and literature to promote his image as a benevolent and divine ruler. He even commissioned works like Virgil's "Aeneid" to glorify Rome and his leadership.
He promoted traditional Roman values and family life, passing legislation to encourage marriage and childbirth. These reforms aimed to strengthen the moral fabric of society.

After his death, Augustus was deified by the Roman Senate. His life and reign left an indelible mark on history, shaping the Roman Empire for centuries to come.
