Dutch Delft blue and white tile. Central motif with a Hen walking to right. The tile is decorated with 'balusters' at the sides and 'fleur de lis' corner motifs.

Size: ca 13 x 13 cm
Condition: good and solid condition, no restorations. Some minor chipping at the borders

Delft blue and white tiles originated during the Dutch Golden Age in the 16th and 17th centuries. Inspired by Chinese porcelain, Delft artisans created hand-painted ceramics featuring intricate blue designs on a white background.  
These tiles, characterized by intricate blue designs on a white background offer a tantalising glimpse into life in Holland during that era. They often depict scenes of daily life, children at play, maritime themes, or floral arrangements. Delftware gained popularity due to its artistic qualities and affordability compared to imported porcelain.
