Dutch Delft blue and white tile. Central motif with a nude standing Amor holding a bow and arrow. Ox-head corner motifs.

Size: ca 13 x 13 cm
Condition: good and solid condition, no restorations.Minor edge wear overall, with firing-related pitting and glaze irregularities to the lower border.

Delft blue and white tiles originated during the Dutch Golden Age in the 16th and 17th centuries. Inspired by Chinese porcelain, Delft artisans created hand-painted ceramics featuring intricate blue designs on a white background.  
These tiles, characterized by intricate blue designs on a white background offer a tantalising glimpse into life in Holland during that era. They often depict scenes of daily life, children at play, maritime themes, or floral arrangements. Delftware gained popularity due to its artistic qualities and affordability compared to imported porcelain.
