Ancient Roman bi-coloured glass amulet pendant made from molded blue and red glass. The pendant is topped with a large suspension loop, still intact and well preserved, whilst the reverse is plain and unadorned.
The pendant is decorated with a lion advancing to right.

Length: ± 22,5 mm
Width: ± 17,6 mm

Condition: good solid condition, complete with suspension loop. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.

Lions were strongly associated with Hercules as he strangled the Nemean Lion as one of his Twelve Labours. A lion's skin was one of Heracles' attributes.
For soldiers in the Roman army, the lion hunt was a favourtie pastime. The Roman Imperial army included 'venatores' (hunters) in their ranks.
