A substantial Ancient Roman bronze ring with a broad, plain hoop and an integral rectangular bezel. The bezel bears the inscription LEG / • X •, arranged in two registers and referring to Legio Decima, the Tenth Legion.

Outside diameter: ± 27 mm

Inside diameter: ± 17,5 - 16,6 mm

Bezel: ± 12 x 14,8 mm

Good solid condition and wearable.The inscription is worn and faint, but remains discernible. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.

Quantity

The inscription LEG X is an abbreviation of Legio Decima, meaning “Tenth Legion”. Several Roman legions carried this number, including Legio X Gemina and Legio X Fretensis. Without an additional legionary title or documented findspot, the ring cannot be securely associated with one particular unit.

Rings bearing legionary inscriptions may have expressed military service, affiliation or pride in a particular legion.
